    The work, his debut collaboration with Avant Arte, a creative marketplace founded in 2015, is based on an original piece Kawashima painted shortly after his mother's death. The motif of a young schoolgirl "in the most glorious period of her life" embodies his layered ruminations on life and death.

    Concept

    In his early works, he presented paintings in which only "faces" were floating in the air, with no indication of gender or age, and around 2010, he shifted to portraits of people who could be identified as human beings. In recent years, he has painted multiple people on a screen with a background, showing a new development by adding objectivity to the viewpoint that had been consistently directed toward his own inner self.
